Dental abrasion

Dental abrasion

Dental abrasion is a lesion found in teeth edging, frequently appearing at the cervical level (the tooth – gum limit). The abrasion’s evolution is more present at the tooth’s surface rather than at a deeper level.

Dental abrasion occurs after repeated contact with a foreign body.

Determining factors include:

  • The force applied to the tooth brush while brushing;
  • The hardness, shape and length of the toothbrush;
  • The PH
  • The amount of toothpaste used.

Treatment objectives:

  • Relieving hypersensitivity and pain;
  • Identifying the determining factors and eliminating them;
  • Protecting the remaining tooth structure;
  • Keeping the patient under supervision.
