Toothache can occur in all teeth. Dental pain is caused by direct dentin exposure in the oral environment. However, not all patients with exposed dentin shows pain stimuli, due to their natural defense systems.
Cases in which dentin is exposed:
- Dental cavities;
- Tooth damage with enamel damage (erosions, abrasions, dental wear);
- Dentine trauma with exposure;
- Periodontal disease.
The first phase of treatment consists of establishing a differential diagnosis. This is followed by removing the determining factors and subsequently by the treatment itself in accordance with the diagnosis.
