White tongue

White tongue

A coated or white tongue occurs most often in states of dehydration, fever or as a result of lesions on the tongue.

In all of these cases the tongue becomes white by accumulating deposits. In healthy individuals, the amount of saliva and tongue movements removes food debris and desquamated cells – this process is called self-cleaning.

The white tongue aspect vanishes as the individual regains his/her health.
